A project by Atau Tanaka, Global String is a multi-site network music installation, connected via the internet, and developed during his residency at V2_. Global String is a musical instrument where the network is the resonating body of the instrument, by use of a real time sound synthesis server.

The world premiere of Global String took place during the opening of DEAF00 at V2_ (NL) in co-operation with Ars Electronica Centre in Linz (AU).

Atau Tanaka (located in Rotterdam) and Kasper Toeplitz (located in Linz) did five simultaneous performances with the Global String during DEAF00: on November 14 (opening of the DEAF festival), 15, 16, 18 and 19.
